New Glasses

New Glasses

The frames were rose pink and Bethany hated them. Her mother had organised the eye test that had led to Bethany being told she needed to wear glasses ‘just for a little while.’ She didn’t believe them. Her chubby face scowled back at her in the optician’s mirror.

“Doesn’t she look a pretty girl,” cooed the sales assistant.

“She looks lovely in pink,” said Bethany’s mother.

Bethany hated pink more than she hated the new glasses. A plan developed in her mind. On the way home, she’d trip when they got to the bridge. She’d make sure the glasses fell into the water far below. With a bit of luck, if she made enough fuss, she’d get a day off school too.
